Gong Yan is an intelligent and open-minded artist. She explores the concept of hyper and design in her ingenious use of materials from media. This approach is well illustrated by her entry at the Biennale. The work entitled Weather Forecast consists of racks and 24 stacks of newspaper with 730 news articles, supposedly dated from September 5, 2006 to September 5, 2008. The newspaper displays nothing beyond weather related headlines. The installation offers the visitors a wide range of experiences related to weather, the future, our emotions, desires, expectations, breath and skin. It raises questions about weather forecasts and newspapers, things we encounter on a daily basis. Is reading the newspaper an everyday practice, or something else?
